About the Artist | Natalie Vairac
At the crossroads of France, India, Guadeloupe, and Indochina, Nathalie Vairac develops an artistic practice rooted in migration, intergenerational memory, and the complexity of identity. Drawing on maternal and paternal inheritances—both tangible and intangible—her work explores unfinished territories, scars, and the possibility of regeneration through transmission.
A stage actress since 1995, Vairac has performed extensively in France and internationally, working with major figures such as Philippe Adrien and Sotigui Kouyaté. Her repertoire spans Greek tragedy, Shakespeare, French classics, and contemporary theatre from Europe, the Caribbean, Africa, and Australia. She has also appeared in acclaimed films, including Sira by Apolline Traoré, and received the Saana Award for Best Actress in 2014.
Based in Dakar, she works across theatre, performance, exhibition-making, and artistic coaching. Her recent projects include a residency at RAW Material Company and the exhibition MUTIKKAPATATA, presented as part of the Dakar Biennale OFF. Through a synthesis of performance, embodied practices, and diverse cultural lineages, Vairac’s work positions the body as a site of memory, resistance, and renewal.

フランス、インド、グアドループ、インドシナという複数の地理と文化が交差する家族史を背景に、ナタリー・ヴェラックは、移住の記憶や世代を超えた継承の断絶、複雑なアイデンティティの形成を主題とした実践を展開している。母系・父系から受け継いだ有形・無形の記憶を手がかりに、「未完の領域」や、傷や亀裂から再び生命が立ち上がる可能性を探究する。
1995年より舞台俳優としてフランス国内外で活動。フィリップ・アドリアン、ソティギ・ヤクテらのもとで研鑽を積み、ギリシャ悲劇から現代演劇まで幅広いレパートリーに出演してきた。映画『Sira』(アポリーヌ・トラオレ監督)などにも出演し、2014年にはケニアにて最優秀女優賞を受賞。現在はダカールを拠点に、演劇、パフォーマンス、展覧会、アーティスティック・コーチングを横断しながら、身体を記憶と再生の場として探る表現を続けている。
