《루밍 아이즈》는 가덕도 신공항 논의를 하나의 출발점으로 삼아, 한국 곳곳에서 되풀이되어 온 개발의 장면들이 어떤 공통된 논리에 의해 추진되어 왔는지 질문하는 데서 시작합니다. 이러한 개발은 시기와 지역을 달리해도 비슷한 구조로 반복되어 왔으며, 이는 한국을 넘어 아시아 여러 도시에서 공항 건설과 매립 사업이 진행되는 방식과도 맞닿아 있습니다. 미래 성장을 약속하는 조감도는 매끄러운 이미지를 제시하지만, 그 이면에서 지역의 삶과 권리, 터전이 어떻게 소거되는지는 충분히 논의되지 않습니다.
《루밍 아이즈》는 ‘글로벌 관문도시’, ‘스마트 해양도시’ 같은 개발 구호와 조감도가 만들어내는 현실의 ‘착시’에 주목하며, 그 뒤에 가려진 복잡한 사회적·정치적 층위를 들여다봅니다. 이에 리 카이청, 린 옌샹, 세컨드 콤플렉스는 나리타, 부산, 타오위안, 홍콩의 공항 건설과 매립 사업을 둘러싼 논의를 가로지르며, 대규모 개발의 조감도적 시선에 맞선 시각적 언어를 모색합니다.

"Looming Eyes" begins by taking the discussions surrounding Busan’s new airport development on Gadeokdo as a point of departure, questioning the shared logic that has driven recurring scenes of development across various regions in Korea. Such development has been enacted repeatedly in similar structures regardless of time or place, paralleling the ways airport construction and land reclamation have unfolded across numerous cities in Asia. While master plan renderings present smooth and optimistic visions of future growth, they often fail to adequately address how local lives, rights, and homelands are erased in the process.
The exhibition draws attention to the “optical illusion” produced by development slogans and master plan imagery—terms such as “Global Gateway City” or “Smart Marine City”—and examines the complex social and political layers that these narratives obscure. Through this inquiry, Lee Kai Chung, Lin Yan-Xiang, and Second Komplex traverse debates surrounding airport construction and land reclamation in Busan, Hong Kong, Narita, and Taoyuan, seeking visual languages that counter the master plan gaze of large-scale development.
