파이프갤러리는 10월 11일부터 11월 2일까지 박현성과 임지현의 2인전《Skins》를 개최한다. 전시는 두 작가의 작업에서 ‘피부’가 단순한 외부적 표면을 넘어, 물질적 저항과 그로 인한 변형의 가능성을 내포하며, 내면과 외부를 연결하는 매체로서 기능하는 것에 주목한다. ‘피부’는 이들의 작품 속에서 생물학적 경계를 초월하여 내면과 외부, 물질성과 상징성의 사이를 오가는 경계적 공간으로 확장된다.
임지현(b.1992)의 작업에서는 식물의 ‘촉각적 물질성’을 통해 그 생명력을 재해석하고, 피부를 유기적 형상과 생명력의 발현으로 시각화한다. 그의 작품에서 피부는 단순히 부드러운 외피가 아닌, 주름진 꽃잎, 붉은 색조, 촉수와 같은 형태적 요소를 통해 유기체의 물질적 변형성을 강조하며, 마치 동물적 생명체처럼 시각적으로 재구성된다. 예를 들어, 난꽃의 잎맥과 꽃잎의 질감을 사포로 긁어내고, 붉은 톤과 광택을 더하여 생명체의 피부적인 질감을 부각한다. 번지는 색감과 질감은 꽃의 이미지를 넘어서, 마치 가죽의 표면처럼 표현되며, 피부의 마블링, 주름 또는 생명력을 가진 입체적이고 동적인 이미지를 창출해내어, 경계를 넘나드는 변형적 주체로서 식물의 물질적 유기체성을 탐구한다.

In Jihyun Im(b.1992)’s work, the tactile materiality of plants is reinterpreted to visualize their vitality, with skin manifesting as an organic form and expression of life force. The artist explores the material plasticity of organic bodies through textured motifs like wrinkled petals and tendrils. For example, the veins and petals of orchids are scratched with sandpaper, accentuated with red tones and glossy surfaces to evoke a life like skin texture. The resulting colors and textures transcend the image of a flower, rendering the surface akin to leather. Through this marbling, wrinkling, and dynamic visual representation of plant textures, Im’s work investigates the material organicity of plants as boundary-crossing transformative entities.
Hyunsung Park (b.1991) interprets ‘skin’ as a boundary that traverses the inside and outside, metaphorically representing the human physical condition. His works visualize intangible qualities such as personal emotions and sensations, constructing a material narrative in which internal experiences manifest outwardly through the skin. In Hyunsung Park’s work, skin operates as an agent of relational narratives—torn, stitched, and merged with disparate materials like metal—constantly being reconfigured through physical resistance. In this process, skin functions not only as a surface but as a performative site of interaction, extending beyond internal experiences to reach out and establish connections.
Through《Skins》, Hyunsung Park and Jihyun Im explore the boundaries between vitality and materiality, offering a deep engagement with shared conceptual perspectives while maintaining their unique expressive approaches.
